  • Types of Visas for Malaysia

    Basic Types of Malaysia Visas

The government of Malaysia issues three types of visas Single Entry Visa, Multiple Entry Visa, and Transit Visa. The type of visa you need to apply for depends on the nature and purpose of your visit. The types of visas are:

Single Entry Visa: You should apply for single entry visa if the nature and purpose of your visit is social and if your stay is short. The visa is only valid for a span of 3 months after from the date of issue. Single entry visa is for people who only need to only enter and exit the country once. If you exit the country once after entering after entering then you will not be able to enter the Federation of Malaysia if the three months are not over. The single entry visa is informally known as a tourist visa. Indian citizens can apply for eVisa or Visa on Arrival (VOA) for tourist visa to Malaysia. If you have to visit friends or family in Malaysia then you need to apply for a single entry visa.

Multiple Entry Visa: You need to apply for multiple entry visa if you may need to exit and enter the country more than once during the course of your visit. The multiple entry visas are valid for 12 months from the date of issue. However, the times that you will be able to enter and exit the country will be dependent on your business or at the direction of the government. During the course of the visit, the visitors are not permitted to stay in the country for more than 30 days at a time. It means that once you enter the country, you will be able to stay in the country for a maximum of 39 days before you have to leave the country and enter again. Additionally, the multiple entry visa cannot be extended for more than a duration of 12 months.

Transit Visa: Transit visa is unlike single entry and multiple entry visas. An individual traveling to another county but who has a layover in Malaysia and whose stay is restricted to the airport do not require a transit visa. However, if the individual wishes to visit other parts of the nation, then they need to apply for a transit visa. It does not matter if they point of entry into the Federation of Malaysia is through land or water; the individual will need to apply for a transit visa.

    Malaysia Visa Fees

Fees for Immigrant and Non-Immigrant Malaysia Visas

The Malaysia visa fees for Indians are not bifurcated on the basis of the nature of visit or the type of visa you apply for. Due to the friendly ties between both the nations, the Malaysia visa fees are not that high for Indians. The Malaysia visa cost is the same if you are applying for a single entry, multiple entry or transit visa. The Malaysia tourist fees are same for individuals intending to stay to for a short time and for those who intend to stay for a longer time. The breakdown of visa charges for Malaysia depending on the nature of visit or the types of visas are as follows:

Visa Type Purpose Fee Amount (in RM)
    Single Entry Tourism 50
Single Entry Journalism/ reporting news 50
    Single Entry Business 50
Single Entry Visiting Family and/ or friends 50
Single Entry Sports competition or any other activity that has been approved by the Immigration Department of Malaysia 50

What are the Fees for Travel Insurance?

The travel insurance fee to Malaysia depends on a number of factors. The fee is decided on the basis of the duration of your visit and other aspects that you want to cover over the course of your visit. The factors that decide the cost of your travel insurance are as follows:

    • The number of travelers
    • The age of the travelers
    • The duration of travel
    • The nature of coverage required for travelers on an individual basis

However, age is one of the most important factors when it comes to deciding the cost of travel insurance If the age of a traveler exceeds 65 years then an additional charge is levied on the travel insurance . Additionally, if any minors are among the traveling party then depending on the provider of the policy, you may not have to pay an additional cost to add them to the policy.

The complete duration of the travel along with the number of travelers is also a deciding factor when it comes to calculating the final cost of the travel insurance. The reason is that in such a scenario, there are more variables that need to be considered by the insurance provider.

There are a number of covers available to be added to your travel insurance policy such as family travel cover, car collision cover for rented cars, student travel cover, etc. Thus, the total rate of the travel insurance will increase based on the extra covers and add-ons chosen by you. However, there is a basic bur comprehensive plan that costs a normal amount and is enough to cover basics. Interestingly, if you are traveling for medical reasons and decide to add emergency covers, then the cost of the travel insurance would be higher.

You should remember to have an adequate travel insurance policy when traveling to Malaysia. The reason is that you never know when you may have to face an emergency situation. So, if you want to ensure that you are not stuck in a foreign and unknown country without any means to help you out. If any medical emergency or any other travel emergency were to arise then it could end you causing a fortune if you do not have a travel insurance.
