There are two ways to apply for an Australian visa: online and offline.

The online application process is done through an ImmiAccount. While online application is the most convenient option to apply for a visa, it is not available for all types of visa; online application is available for the following types of visa:

  • Visitor Visas
  • Student Visas
  • Australian Citizenship by Descent
  • Spouse visas
  • Resident Return visa

You will need to visit the website and follow the steps based on your need and reason for visit.

How to Book Appointment?

You will need to visit the VFS website to book an appointment. However, you need to remember and adhere to the following instructions:

  • Go through the visa application process before starting with the application process or making an appointment. Additionally, you should complete the application form and ensure that you have all the required supporting documents handy and ready for submission to the AVAC.
  • You should also not that nobody apart from the applicants is allowed to the visa application centre. However, exceptions are made for children who are under 18 years-of-age or for applicants who require special assistance due to health reasons or disability.
  • Only ONE appointment can be booked per passport.
  • You need to ensure that the name of the applicant should the name that is used for booking the appointment; otherwise AVAC will not accept the application
  • If you are part of a group of family, then each member will need to make an an individual appointment.
  • You will need to carry your appointment letter to the AVAC at the scheduled date & time. You will not gain entry without it.
  • Ensure that you arrive with sufficient time before your appointment.
  • Do not be late or miss your appointment. There is option to reschedule or cancel once the appointment is made, and if you do miss it then you will have to wait 24 hours to book a new which will be based on availability.
  • Additionally, you can reschedule the appointment for a later date but it is allowed only a maximum of 2 times.

Australia Visa Eligibility

You need to ensure that you fulfil the eligibility criteria for an Australia visa. Australian government will not grant you a visa if you are deemed to have not met their character requirements.

The character requirements are:

  • you should not have a substantial criminal record
  • you should not have been convicted either for from immigration detention, or convicted for the offences:
    • While being detained for immigration
    • During an escape from immigration detention
    • After an escape, but before you were taken into immigration detention again.
    • You should not belong to or should have been a member of an organisation or group, or had or have an any association with any entity is involved in criminal conduct

Important note: It is the prerogative of the Minister whether he or she does not suspect you to be involved in people trafficking, people smuggling, a war crime, genocide, a crime involving slavery or torture, a crime against humanity, or a crime that is of serious international concern

  • You need to have a general conduct that shows you of good character
  • You should not pose any risk that during the course of your stay in Australia you would:
    • Engage in criminal conduct
    • Molest, harass, intimidate or stalk others
    • Vilify a segment of the Australian community
    • Incite discord in the Australian community or in a part of it
    • Be a danger to the Australian community or a part of it.

How to Check Status of Australian Visa

You can visit the VFS website to check the status of your visa application or visit the Australian home office website if you have applied online through ImmiAccount.

There is no set processing time for your application. The processing time of an application is dependent on numerous factors, they are:

Whether all necessary supporting documents have been submitted when an application is lodged

The adequacy and promptness by which the requests for additional information have been attended

The amount of time it may take for required checks on information based on the type of visa

Duration taken to receive additional information from other departments

How many places are available in the Migration Programme.

A decision to grant or refuse your visa application may be made based on the information and documentation that you provide at the time of lodgement.

Australia Visa Document Requirements

 

Documents Required for Australia Visa application

The documents required for an Australian visa are:

1 The application form should be completed and signed by the applicant
2 Passport should be valid beyond a period of a minimum of three months after the tentative date of departure.
Passport should have at least two of its pages blank
The passport should not be more than a decade old.
No handwritten amendment or alteration should exist on the data page
3 Two photographs: should abide by the international standards for photographs as established in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)
4 Valid permit of return (may not be applicable in every case)
5 Cover letter: it should explain the nature and purpose of of the trip
8 Travel itinerary in case of round-trip flight bookings
9 Minor travellers:
a) a minor should be accompanied by at least one parent who should provide a Original notarized NOC by the other parent in addition to the copies of passports or IDs of parents
b) a minor, if travelling alone, should provide a Original notarized NOC that has to be signed by both parents / legal guardians, plus copies of passports or IDs of parents
10 Copy of the present passport in its entirety
11 Original(s) of previous passport(s) or proof of loss
