This type of two wheeler insurance provides coverage to you and your two-wheeler called own-damage or OD, as well as third-party liability. It provides financial protection against losses caused by accidents, thefts and natural disasters. You should get comprehensive two wheeler insurance policy for a 360-degree cover.
The OD premium would vary depending on your two wheeler’s cubic capacity, make-model, year of manufacture, engine capacity, and geographical location.
Note: Both the third-party liability and comprehensive cover plans also include the compulsory personal accident cover for owner-driver with a premium of particular amount, for which the owner-driver is liable to receive a sum assured amount of Rs. 15 lacs in case of:
|TYPE OF INJURY||COMPENSATION LEVEL|
|Loss of two limbs or sight of two eyes or one limb and sight of one eye.||100%|
|Loss of one limb or sight of one eye||50%|
|Permanent total disablement from injuries other than named above.||100%|
This type of two wheeler insurance provides coverage for only third-party injuries as well as their damaged property. This is the minimum two wheeler insurance cover that you need to get as per the Indian Motor Vehicle Laws. However, remember that this plan does not cover you against damage to your own scooter/motorbike or any injuries that you may sustain.
The base premium for third party liability insurance depends on the cubic capacity of the two wheeler’s engine. The Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority of India (IRDAI) revises the rates for base premium every year. As per the recent guideline by Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India, insurers are directed to offer five year third party liability for new two wheelers. Hence, the policy for a new two wheeler vehicle will cover the TP premium for 5 Years.
As of 16th June 2019, the third party insurance premium rates are as mentioned below:
|Engine Capacity||TP Premium Rate for annual renewal||TP Premium for 5 year policy|
