What is not covered

  • Driving under intoxication

    • Damages caused to the bike if you or anyone else was caught driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of accident is not covered under two wheeler insurance.

  • Regular wear and tear

    • After a period of time, the vehicle is bound to face regular wear and tear as well as losses due to depreciation of vehicle. These aren’t covered under two wheeler insurance policy.

  • Illegal Activity

    • Losses/Damages that occur if found driving underaged/without valid license will not be covered under two wheeler insurance.
  • Commercial Activity

    • Driving your private vehicle for commercial purposes.
  • Other reasons

    • An expired policy, consequential damages, electrical and mechanical failure, staged accidents, and driving outside geographical limits are other reasons for bike insurance claim rejection.

Depreciation Cover

Comprehensive Two Wheeler Insurance

This type of two wheeler insurance provides coverage to you and your two-wheeler called own-damage or OD, as well as third-party liability. Third-Party Liability Coverage

This type of two wheeler insurance provides coverage for only third-party injuries as well as their damaged property. This is the minimum two wheeler insurance cover that you need to get as per the Indian Motor Vehicle Laws. However, remember that this plan does not cover you against damage to your own scooter/motorbike or any injuries that you may sustain. 

The base premium for third party liability insurance depends on the cubic capacity of the two wheeler’s engine. The Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority of India (IRDAI) revises the rates for base premium every year. As per the recent guideline by Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India, insurers are directed to offer five year third party liability for new two wheelers. Hence, the policy for a new two wheeler vehicle will cover the TP premium for 5 Years.

Note: There is compensation up to Rs1 lakh for third-party property damage for a two wheeler. If there is a case of injuries/death, it will be taken into the court tribunal.

What is voluntary excess?

What is compulsory excess?

What is the third party liability cover?

The Insured will be covered for any liability arising from any accident caused by or arising out of the use of the private two wheeler in respect of:

  • Death or bodily injury to third parties (unlimited liability)
  • Damage to the third party property (minimum of Rs.6000/- and max of Rs.7,50,000)

Can other accessories be insured?

Accessories can be insured under a two wheeler insurance policy with an additional premium. In case these are factory fitted they are automatically insured under the policy however insured needs to insure them separately if those are installed later. Insured will have to pay additional premium to cover the accessories in two wheeler insurance policy.


What are the types of events or losses not covered under two wheeler insurance?

The following events or losses are not covered in two wheeler insurance policy:

  • Mechanical/ Electrical breakdown
  • Wear and tear, ageing of vehicle
  • Consequential loss*
  • Depreciation
  • Deliberate accidental loss
  • Intoxicated driving
  • Any contractual liability
  • Damage to/ by a person driving any vehicle without a valid license

*Consequential loss is an indirect loss, which is not directly resulting out of a loss event, but arising as a consequence of loss event. For example, Mr. Singh was on his way to office for an important meeting with client. Unfortunately, his vehicle met with a road accident resulting in damages to the vehicle and it consumed lot of his time. Due to this, he could not attend the meeting resulting in loss of approx 15 Lakhs. Damages to two wheeler due to the accident are covered, but the loss of 15 Lakhs is consequential and hence not covered.


What is the scope and cover offered in a two wheeler insurance policy?

Your two wheeler can be used for social, domestic and pleasure purposes and also
for business purposes excluding the carriage of goods other than samples by you

Is my No Claim Bonus (NCB) transferable?

Yes, in case you are changing from any other insurance company to Bharti AXA GI and have accrued some NCB from them, you can get the same transferred in case your two wheeler is insured within 90 days of your renewal due date.


What is No Claim Bonus (NCB)?

No Claim Bonus (NCB) is a discount on premium of the own damage (OD) portion of your vehicle when you renew your policy, provided you have not made any claim during the last policy period of one year. The NCB can be accumulated up to a maximum limit of 50% on own damage premium for two wheeler insurance. You can transfer the full benefits of NCB, even when you shift your two wheeler insurance to Bharti AXA from any other insurance company.


What is a premium?

Premium is the fixed amount of sum paid for a policy period by the insured to the insurance company for the benefits or covers availed to take insurance policy and to complete the contract of insurance. What is Cashless Claim and Non- Cashless/Reimbursement Claim two-wheeler Policy?

Two-wheeler insurance claim covers the Cashless Claim and Reimbursement Claim. It is the same as the claim in car insurance. The cashless claim is where the insurance provider pays for the damage caused to the two-wheeler in an accident. The insurer needs to repair his/her two-wheeler at the network garage of the insurance provider, whereas Reimbursement-Claim or Non-Cashless is where the insurer pays for the damage caused to the two-wheeler in an accident. After the payment is made, the policyholder is required to submit the receipt or bill to the insurer. If the policyholder is entitled, the provider makes a reimbursement claim. In reimbursement claim, the policyholder can get his two-wheeler repaired in any garage. What are cashless claims?

The cashless claim is a facility offered to the policyholders by the insurance company for easy and quick claim settlement process. The garage will repair your vehicle and charge the bills directly to the insurance company without you requiring paying the cash up front.

What will happen when the customer sells his bike?

If you sell your bike to another person, the two wheeler insurance policy can be transferred in the name of the buyer. The buyer (transferee) has to apply for transfer of bike Insurance with us, within 14 days from the date of transfer of the vehicle in his name. If you want to substitute another two wheeler of your in this policy, the policy will not be transferred to the buyer. The buyer (transferee) has to buy fresh bike insurance.


How is the value of the vehicle (IDV - Insured Declared Value) determined for two wheeler insurance?
