What Is Neck Pain ?

Neck pain is a common symptom caused due to excessive strain exerted on the neck muscles. Common causes for neck pain include poor posture, weak muscles and medical conditions. Pain in the neck, in severe conditions, can also be accompanied with numbness around the neck muscles.

What Are The Available Treatment Options?

  • Try and maintain the right posture to avoid pain in the neck muscles. However, in case the pain worsens and does not get better, make sure you see a doctor at the earliest.
  • Your doctor shall examine you physically. He may recommend a few imaging tests such as X-rays, CT scan and MRI to spot structural problems (if any) in the neck
  • In severe cases, the doctor may also suggest other tests such as electromyography and blood tests.
  • Your doctor may prescribe you medications to relieve the pain and stiffness
  • Your doctor may suggest you therapies such as tractions (using weights and pulleys), physical therapy and relaxation techniques.

Are There Any Natural Remedies To Fight Neck Pain ?

Some of the common natural remedies to combat neck pain are:
1. Heat Therapy
Ingredients: Hot Compress
Ways to Use:

Heat therapy helps to increase blood circulation. You can take a hot shower, a heating pad or a hot water bottle for 20 minutes. Repeat every 2-3 hours.

2. Cold Therapy
Ingredients: Ice pack
Ways to Use:

The cold reduces inflammation. Put some crushed ice cubes in a plastic pack, wrap this pack in a towel and put it around your neck. Keep it for not more than 20 minutes. Make sure that ice cubes are not applied directly to the skin.

3. Massage With Essential Oil
Ingredients: Lavender Oil
Ways to Use:

Gently rub some lavender oil on the neck and shoulder. Massage in a circular pattern. Apply pressure on the area for 10-15 minutes

4. Apple Cider Vinegar
Ingredients: Apple Cider Vinegar
Ways to Use:

Soak a towel in the vinegar. Warm it in a microwave and place the towel on the neck. Leave it for some time and repeat the process after an hour.
