What Is Diarrhea?

Diarrhea is a condition where one has atleast three to four loose or liquid bowel movements each day. It is also a symptom of bowel infection caused by a virus (norovirus or rotavirus) or a bacteria (Campylobacter, Clostridium difficle, E. coli).

  • Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) is the first line of treatment for diarrhea. It helps to replace the fluids lost from the body and does not let the body get dehydrated
  • To stay hydrated, drink plenty of water at regular intervals
  • You may choose to add lime, sugar and a pinch of salt to water, rather than gulping down plain water
  • In adverse conditions, the doctor may prescribe you anti-diarrheal medicines and antibiotics to get rid of the bacterial infection
  • Avoid intake of caffeinated drinks such as coffee, tea and cola drinks
  • Avoid oily and fatty foods
  • Avoid intake of dairy products till the time loose stools continue
Are There Any Natural Remedies For Diarrhea?
You can try these effective natural remedies to ease your symptoms and to speed up your recovery
1. Curd (Dahi)
Ingredients: Curd Apple/ Banana
Ways to Use:

Have a bowl full of curd after every five hours, atleast thrice a day. You may choose to add fruits such as apple or banana for added benefits.

2. Banana
Ingredients: Banana
Ways to Use:

Have two to three bananas a day. It will not only keep you full  but also help you deal with diarrhea.

3. Chamomile Tea
Ingredients: Chamomile Tea Peppermint Water
Ways to Use:

You can enjoy the taste of chamomile tea by steeping one teaspoon of tea leaves. You may also add peppermint leaves to add flavor to the same. Drink this tea atleast two times a day.

4. Ginger Tea
Ingredients: Ginger Tea
Ways to Use:

To a cup of boiling water, add sliced ginger. You may add a teaspoon of honey. Wait for the tea to cool down a little. Consume the tea when it is lukewarm.
