Types of Car Insurance Plans

Motor insurance is mandatory as per the government for all cars driven on public roads. For a small annual premium, you get protection against financial losses that may arise in case your car is damaged in an accident. You can choose from two types of insurance plans offered by us.

Third-Party Liability Coverage

This type of insurance compensates only third-party injuries and their property damages. As per The Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, Third Party Liability Coverage is mandatory for all vehicles driven on public roads in India.

IRDAI (the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India) revises the rates for Third Party Coverage each year. The revised third-party rates (As on 1st April, 2017 ) are as mentioned in the table.

Note: Third-party property damage is compensated up to Rs. 7.5 lakh. In case of injuries/death, decision on pay out will be taken by the court tribunal.

Comprehensive Car Insurance
This type of insurance covers losses/damages to you and your car in addition to protecting you against third-party liabilities. You should opt for this type of insurance if you want financial protection from losses caused due to accidents, theft and natural disasters. For all-round financial protection, the comprehensive plan is recommended. The own-damage (OD) premium would vary depending on the car’s make-model, age of the car, engine capacity, and geographical zones.

Note: Both the third-party liability and comprehensive plans also comprise of the personal accident cover for owner-driver. In this, for a premium of Rs.750, you receive a sum assured of Rs. 15 lakh in case of:

Your car’s engine can get damaged during heavy rains or floods. This add-on provides coverage against repair or replacement of engine parts. This cover is applicable only if your vehicle is less than 5 years old.

No Claim Bonus (NCB) Protector

With a single claim, your accumulated No-Claim Bonus drops down to 0%. However, with the NCB Protector, even after making two claims in the policy period, you can still retain your No Claim Bonus discount.

Zero Depreciation cover

With this add-on, you don’t have to pay depreciation on expenses of repaired/replaced parts like plastic, fibre, rubber and glass parts.

Roadside Assistance

You won’t be stranded if your car ever breaks down in the middle of the road as you can get help with just one call at any time of the day or night. The services offered include changing flat tyres, repairs, emergency fuel refilling, towing facility.

Invoice Price Cover

You generally get the depreciated value of your car at the time of claim. But with this add-on, if you make a claim, you get the invoice value of the car along with registration fees, road tax, and insurance.

Co-Passenger Cover

In a standard policy, only the owner-driver gets a Rs. 2 lakh personal accident cover. However, with this add-on, fellow passengers are provided coverage of Rs. 1 lakh in case of death, permanent or total disability.

Key replacement

Coverage is provided for cost incurred to replace the vehicle lock and key if it’s stolen or lost. This is valid for up to 2 claims in a policy period.

Medical expenses

If you and the passengers are injured in case of an accident, then medical expenses up to Rs. 10,000 are given for treatment.

Hospital cash

For each day spent at the hospital, you get a lump sum amount of Rs. 1000 per day when hospitalized for up to 30 days.

Consumables cover

Coverage is provided for expenses on consumables such as oil, nuts, bolts that are considered unfit for further use.

Ambulance charges

This add-on covers charges towards transportation of the insured person in an ambulance to the hospital. 

Engine and gearbox cover

The add-on provides you financial protection if your car breaks down due to damage to the internal parts of the engine and gearbox.
