Bharti AXA INSURANCE GLOSSARY Day Care Treatment Day Care Treatment refers to medical procedures that are performed under a general or local anaesthesia in a hospital or a day care centre, and take less than a day. That is, treatments that do not require hospitalization for over 24 hours. Day care treatment are differentiated from OPD treatments as the later do not require anaesthesia. While most health insurance policies cover treatments that require hospitalization for over 24 hours, many also provide coverage for Day care treatment. It is important to remember that such a policy may not cover OPD treatments like dental clean up, but would cover dental surgery as it requires application of local anaesthesia. The claim process for day care treatment is same as it is for regular hospitalization.
