What You Need To Know About Visiting Seychelles

Seychelles is one of the most popular beach destinations around the world. The pristine beaches, azure waters, and lush greenery attracts thousands of tourists every year.

However planning a trip to Seychelles is not simple, you need to factor in a lot of things including the best time to visit, flights and hotel bookings, accommodation, places to see and most importantly the budget for the trip.

Here are some important points to keep in mind for visiting Seychelles from India.

Seychelles Visa

For Indian passport holders, Seychelles offers visa on arrival for a period of maximum 30 days. However you need to present your return ticket and hotel booking as a valid proof along with funds of minimum INR 10000/- per day per person to obtain the visa. You can also apply for the visa beforehand by applying for it at the embassy or through a travel agent.

Quick Facts

Currency: Seychellois Rupee (SCR)

1 SCR equals to 5.24 INR (As of September 2019)

Since the Seychellois rupee is slightly stronger than the Indian rupee, make sure you plan your budget wisely and do not end up overspending on your trip.

Time: 1.5 + IST

India is ahead to Seychelles by about one and a half hour, so make sure you account for the time difference before making calls to your friends and family in India from Seychelles.

Since Seychelles is close to the equator, the climate is tropical around the year with temperatures ranging from 24-32`C. The summer or the dry period is from May to October where the humidity is high and temperature averages about 30`c. December to March are the monsoon period of Seychelles. However, December to January is the cyclone season with strong winds.

Food in Seychelles

Seychellois cuisine has been influenced by African, British, Indian and French cuisine. Seafood is a staple in the country accompanied by rice. You can find a variety of differently prepared sea food. Chicken, pulses and coconut are also an important part of Seychellois cuisine.

How to travel

Seychelles is a small archipelago of 115 islands so the travelling between islands is also relatively easy and quick. There are different modes of transportation to move around. Air and Sea transport are the main two modes of transportation. However hiring a car and driving around Seychelles is the easiest and best way to explore Seychelles.

Stay Option

Seychelles is a popular tourist destination which is why there are plenty of accommodation options available. From lodges to 3 star hotels to 5 star resorts and spas, there are a lot of choices to choose from. Staying in Seychelles is slightly expensive compared to India. An average 3 star hotel will cost you about Rs.5000-7000 per night.

Must-see, Must do

There is not a lot to do in Seychelles apart from unwinding at the beaches or exploring national parks. You can enjoy snorkelling, surfing, scuba diving at different beaches in Seychelles. You can also enjoy romantic sunsets while sailing in the blue waters.

While traveling overseas make sure you purchase an overseas travel insurance to keep you protected from financial loss arising from situations like trip cancellation, loss of luggage or sudden medical expenses. A Seychellois travel insurance keeps you and your family covered from any mishaps that may happen on the trip allowing you to have a memorable, stress-free holiday.
