Water Sports In Maldives

125

The Republic of Maldives is an exotic holiday destination. If you are thinking of taking a vacation to this fabulous collection of islands, we highly recommend that you spend some part of your vacation in trying out some of the exciting water sports.

The warm waters of the Indian Ocean and the reef surrounding this tropical archipelago are conducive to a wide range of water sporting action that make the Maldives a hub for exhilarating water sports. They are sure to add an exciting dimension to your dream holiday in the Maldives.

Jet Skiing – Jet skiing is one of the most popular motorised water sports in the Maldives and scores over water skiing in the speed and thrill factor. If you have some practice and are confident of manoeuvring the jet ski, then simply take off on a solo ride to feel the freedom and enjoy the wind and surf on your face. And if you are on a couple trip then jet skiing is an exciting water sport that you and your partner can enjoy. Hopping on a jet ski and zipping across the waters is also a great way to visit other nearby islands in the archipelago. And remember to always wear your life jacket before you zoom off.

Fishing – In case you are wondering what this one is doing here on this guide, yes fishing does very much count as a water sport. There is a different kind of excitement to be experienced in trying your hand in this relatively quieter water sporting activity. Fishing can be quite a rewarding way to spend time in the Maldives, especially once you land a catch. Get on to a boat and head out with the guide or fishing experts to the fishing location in the middle of the waters. You will learn how to tie the bait and lower the rod with the bait and how to reel in the catch. You can even choose to go for big game fishing such as sailfish if you want to up the experience. And the best part – you get to keep your catch. How about that!

House Reef Snorkelling Tour – House reef snorkelling is a delightful water sport which allows you to spot the spectacular, diverse and colourful marine life in the Indian Ocean while you snorkel in the safety of the reef encircling the resort island. First you need to take a few lessons with an instructor in the resort swimming pool after which you set out in a group on a guided house reef snorkelling tour.

Flyboarding – This is an interesting one. Flyboarding is a relatively new sport where you are partly on water and partly in the air. Not for the faint hearted, it involves getting on to a flyboard that is attached to a jet ski by a hose. Pressure pumped through the hose sends the flyboard shooting straight up in the air so you are hoisted high above the surface of the water. It is quite a unique experience and this aqua-aerial ride is something you should definitely try when in Maldives.

Among the other water sports offered in the Maldives are windsurfing, fun tube, scuba diving, sailing and banana boating.

Where To Find A Water Sports Centre

Most of the resort islands in the Maldives have a water sports centre on the island itself, which means they are well equipped to offer a variety of water sports for the recreation of their guests. Depending on where you chose to stay, your resort should be able to organise the requisite sporting gear as well as a trained instructor or a guide if you need one, for whichever water sport activity you would like to try out.
