First time visitors to Seychelles should go prepared to be blown away by the astounding natural beauty of these tiny islands. Everywhere you look the views are simply incredible.

The vibrant Seychellois culture is best experienced through its many festivals. Festivals in Seychelles create a fun, party-like atmosphere that makes it really welcoming for international visitors to participate in and enjoy themselves.

If you are planning a trip to Seychelles we suggest you make it a point to witness some of these fabulous festivals.

Seychelles International Carnival of Victoria

At the Seychelles International Carnival of Victoria, the island nation is dressed in its best – putting up a colourful and extravagant cultural display. Held across locations in the main island of Mahe, the three-day festival is a riot of colours with floats, parades, dancers in dazzling costume, all representing the varied cultural influences, mainly African and European, that have been instrumental in shaping modern-day Seychelles. The Carnival that comes around every year in February, promises to be one of the biggest events in Seychelles’ cultural calendar. Definitely not one to be missed.

Festival Kreol

As a visitor, one of the best ways for you to soak in the native Creole culture of Seychelles is to attend the Festival Kreole. Festival Kreole is a celebration of the Creole way of life in every sense – their fascinating music, art & craft, food and unique traditions. The festival is held to mark Kreole Day that falls in the month of October but the merriment is actually spread over six-days. Mahe, Praslin and La Digue are the islands where the Festival takes place. It is a truly mesmerising and immersive experience in Creole culture for foreign visitors. Do join in if you happen to be around.

Festival Of The Assumption

In Seychelles you will find even religious festivals celebrated with an air of relaxed reverence and much gaiety. The island of La Digue plays host to this religious feast that is more of a joyous community festival with much dancing, live music, a beauty pageant, bicycle tour, sports and coconut-peeling competitions and other fun events bringing people together.
