Tips On How You Can Prevent Joint Pain In The Future

Chances are that most people you know – have some sort of joint pain. Once the domain of the fifties and sixties – people are developing joint pain as they are just past the twenties or early thirties. There is a crying need to know what the factors are which are causing this and what are the things that you can do early on in life to prevent joint pain from crippling you in the future.

Being Overweight or Obese:

 Being overweight or obese is a common problem and puts a lot of pressure on our joints. Even a 10 kg excess over your ideal weight can cause long term damage to our joints. There are many health benefits to managing your weight and keeping within healthy limits and Joint health is one of the important ones as well.


Comfortable footwear – which is good for your body is a complete must. If you have a job that requires heels – take the time and effort to find comfortable good shoes and minimise the shoes that compromise your spine and joint health at other times. Proper leg alignment and balance – can prevent injuries in the future.


The benefits for exercise are well known, but there is still some debate about the long term effects of high impact sports and exercise on long term joint health. What you can definitely do is intersperse your high impact exercises with low impact pones. The exercises which have an extremely low impact or o impact are swimming and yoga. The importance of warming up and cooling down your body before and after exercise respectively also cannot be overstated. It creates a gradual stretch and loosens up the tendons. This prevents injury and prevents weakened joints or joint pain in the future.

Stop Smoking:

Smoking is proven to reduce bone and joint health and increases the possibilities of a person having bursonitis, tendonitis, lower back pains and even osteoporosis. Weak bones impact your joints as well.

Muscle imbalance:

Our bodies are smart machines – and if certain muscles are weak the body automatically compensates using other stronger muscles or joints at its disposal. We would not even realise this until the overused part protests and starts hurting. For example, weak inner thigh muscles cause knee inflammation and pain. The way to recover is to exercise the underutilized weak muscles and make them strong – so that the body is balanced again.

Physical Therapy:

 Don’t neglect small or niggling pains or problems. Take physical therapy and ensure that your joints are in the best condition for whichever age and stage f life you are at. It will benefit your present surely but will keep your joints healthy for the future too.

So pay attention to signals from your body and maintain your joint health today - in a way that tomorrow remains pain-free.
