Places To See In Canada

Stretching from the Pacific Ocean along its west coast to the Atlantic Ocean to its east and bordering Alaska and the Arctic region to its north, Canada is a massive land of rugged wilderness. In fact it is the second largest country in the world.

It is true that Canada’s real appeal lies in some of the most spectacular terrain you can set your eyes and feet on. However that is not all that the country offers tourists. With a high standard of urban living and well developed cities, there is plenty of variety in the places you can visit and things to do in Canada, even if you chose not to head too far out of the city. Here are some of the best places you can look forward to seeing on your vacation to Canada.

Butchart Gardens, Vancouver Island

Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island is one of the most visited sightseeing attractions in Canada. And it is not just for the flowers - although the immaculately maintained gardens with 900 odd varieties of bright and colourful blooms in all shapes and sizes, arranged in attractive floral displays is a very pleasing sight in itself. Take your time to walk along, admire and take Instagram-worthy photographs of the Rose Garden, Japanese Garden, Sunken Garden, Mediterranean Garden, Ross Fountain and Star Pond.

It is hard to imagine that these beautiful gardens today flourish in what was once a limestone quarry. There is plenty to see and do at Butchart Gardens where you can easily spend a pleasurable entire day with your family.

If you are travelling with kids, there is a special Children’s Pavilion with a hand crafted carousel where they can enjoy a ride. Adults and kids can also go boating and have fun on the ice skating rink. End your day at Butchart Gardens watching a wonderful display of fireworks.

Quebec Old City

You will notice that Canada has a major French influence with French being the joint official language of the country alongside English. The best way to experience Canada’s French heritage is to visit Quebec City. Roaming around Vieux Quebec, the historic Old City area of Quebec City with its cobblestone pathways, the Citadel, the grand Fairmont La Chateau Frontenac now turned into a luxury hotel and other heritage structures will give you a distinct feel of being in Europe. This charming pocket of elegant French culture has a lovely location to boot as this historic district sits atop a hill with stunning views of the St. Lawrence River flowing alongside. Be sure to include Quebec City on your list of places to see in Canada.

Stanley Park, Vancouver

Stanley Park is located in the downtown area of Vancouver city. This sprawling beautiful wooded park with majestic red cedar and fir trees is one of the top tourist draws in Canada. Get a healthy dose of walking, jogging or bicycling along the designated paths, while enjoying great views of the blue waters of the ocean beyond. There is also an aquarium, a lake and a rose garden all nestled within the park. In case you are staying in Vancouver during your Canada trip then a visit to Stanley Park is must.

If by now you have been well and truly bitten by the travel bug and can’t wait to plan your trip to Canada, we suggest going through our Canada Travel Guide to help you with details for the best time to visit and the process of applying for your Canada Visa. Just make sure you buy Travel Insurance for Canada before you travel. Canada is an expensive destination and having travel insurance will protect you in case of financial loss arising from loss of your luggage, passport or even your trip getting cancelled.

By the way, don’t forget to pick up a bottle of maple syrup while you are in the country of its origin. Canada is the largest producer of this delicious natural syrup, which is the perfect accompaniment for enjoying your pancakes and waffles.
