Learn About Next-generation Cars

The wheel is widely considered among the greatest inventions of all time. It is because of its impact on transportation. That discovery has led us to an era of ultra-modern transport. Still, the automobile predominates over all others is the car. However, cars also have a negative impact on our environment. Worry not, the next-gen cars will remedy this by being electric in nature. The first practical electric car was manufactured in 1890. Only now with advances in batteries, the electric vehicle industry is able to provide a greener alternative to cars with an internal combustion engine.

Performance and Economy

Electric cars were replaced by ICE cars in the first place largely because of performance issues. But the issues have now been resolved. The next-gen cars are quicker than most of the ICE cars. This is because of the high power-to-weight ratio of electric motors and reduced drivetrain frictional losses. Electric vehicles can also use direct motor-to-wheel configuration which increases the available power and simplifies the use of motor for braking. Many electric vehicles deliver supercar acceleration at low drive train inertia. The Tesla Model S P100D is the quickest car reaching 0-60mph in 2.28 seconds with a motor rated 100kWh.

Even when they are as quick as Supercars, electric vehicles are nowhere near as pricey as the traditional supercars. Though the off-showroom price may be higher than the average consumer car, electric cars are cheaper to operate. A study in 2008 shows that the average cost of operating an electric car is $485 in the United States as compared to $1,117 for an ICE car. This means that with consistent use the ownership cost of electric vehicles is nearly the same as that of the conventional vehicles.

Some Notable Current Electric Cars

One of the honourable mentions is Nissan leaf, regarded as the most successful highway-capable electric car ever with more than 400,000 units sold. Nissan leaf has an EPA-rated range of 243km with a top speed of over 150km/h.

No discussion about electric cars can end without mentioning Tesla Model S P100D. Selling over 400,000 units worldwide by 2019, it is also the second quickest car of all time. Tesla Model S achieves a top speed of 249km/h with an astounding acceleration matched by no other. Some upcoming electric cars are:

Tesla Model 3

After the massive success of Model S, Tesla Inc. is all set to release yet another EV labelled as Model 3. Model 3 is expected to be the very quick, reaching 0-60 kmph in 3.5 seconds along with a best-in-class highway range of around 496 km. Yet again, Tesla is providing all this at a base price of US $46,500 only.

Infiniti Electric Car

The Infiniti electric car looks like a futuristic sedan straight out of the garage of a supervillain or Tony Stark. Although not much is revealed by infiniti, the car is supposed to pack a high-power battery along with elegant design, changing the face of Japanese transportation.

Maruti Wagon R EV

The most anticipated electric car in India is Maruti Wagon R EV. Ready to be launched in 2020, it packs a range of 130 km on a single charge is expected. The EV will be priced somewhere in the range of Rs 7 lakh to 10 lakhs thus making it ideal for a middle-class household. In the area of performance, the Wagon R EV is not behind others coping with the brand name of Maruti. The Wagon is expected to bring the electrical revolution to India with its power-packed performance combined with the brand name ‘Maruti’.
