7 International Destinations Where You Can Witness Wonders Of The World

Only the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt have survived from the original list of the Ancient World. In 2007, the latest list of the New Seven Wonders of the World was compiled. These destinations must be on all travel enthusiast bucket list. These are:

• Great Wall of China, China

The Great Wall of China is a fortification structure that was built to protect the borders of the Chinese Empire from the invading Mongols. It was built over centuries and is actually a succession of walls spread over about 4,000 miles. It is the longest manmade structure to date.

• Christ the Redeemer Statue, Brazil

Rio de Janeiro’s Art Deco-style statue, Christ the Redeemer, looms over the Brazilian city from Corcovado Mountain. Built in 1931, this concrete and soapstone statue was designed by Heitor da Silva Costa. It is said that the total cost of building the statue, $250,000, was raised through donations. Today, it has become among the most recognized symbol of Brazil in general and Rio in particular.

• Machu Picchu, Peru

No trip to Peru can be complete till you visit Machu Picchu. This city of sparkling granite is believed to have been a sacred site of the Incan empire, which had its capital at Cusco. Built in the mid-1400s, the site had been hidden from the world at large till its rediscovery in 1911 by archaeologist Hiram Bingham. Even today you cannot drive down to this city perched between Andean peaks and can reach here by foot, train or a helicopter only.

• Chichen Itza, Mexico

The most recognizable icon of the Mayan culture, Chichen Itza, is located in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Built between the years 800AD and 1200AD, the site is most well-known for its sophisticated astronomical observatory located at El Caracol.

• The Roman Colosseum, Rome

Built between 70AD and 80AD, the Colosseum has stayed as the most enduring icon of Rome for centuries. Earthquakes and robbers may have left the structure in ruins today, but it still remains an important tourist attraction. The influence of the design can be seen across many modern-day amphitheatres.

• Taj Mahal, India

Built between 1632 and 1648, the mausoleum commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife is widely considered the pinnacle of the Ganges-Jamuna culture. This style combines elements from Persian, Turkish and Indian traditions to create the most iconic monument of love.

• Petra, Jordan

The capital of the Nabataean empire showcases the civilizations expertise in manipulating water. Intricate tunnels and water chambers create a pseudo-oasis in Jordan that still amazes all who gaze upon it. This is indeed a sight to behold.

Regardless of what order you choose to travel to these destinations, a comprehensive travel insurance plan from Bharti AXA GI will protect you against emergencies that can arise when travelling.
