How To Avoid Getting Sick This Monsoon

Monsoons are that time of the year when the sweet earthy smell and water droplets on windowpane fill our hearts with joy. While some people prefer to stay back home, reading and enjoying a cup of hot tea, others find solace in the lap of nature and long, exploratory walks. Moreover, it feels so fulfilling when we get to get drenched in the rain and eat spicy food outside.

No doubt, monsoons are a welcome relief from the dreary, swelteringly hot summer days. However, the season is also the harbinger of many health conditions that may spoil your enjoyment during the season.  From digestion issues to cold and cough with fever, these seemingly inconsequential health conditions can quickly get you bedridden. Thankfully, there are various simple tricks that you can follow to avoid getting sick this monsoon.

Enjoy healthy meals

Our body’s digestion capabilities change during the rainy season. Keep a balanced diet and prefer homemade meals as the chances of getting an infection from raw foods are high. Try avoiding them or cook as per your convenience. For every meal or any water intake, use boiled water to reduce the chances of getting sick. Homemade healthy meals are the only way to go during this time of year.

Say no to road-side food

During monsoon, roadside food is a big no. It is prone to contaminated air and can cause severe health problems. The hygiene of street food is also questionable as we don’t know what quality of food material or water they use. Many people get sick after consuming roadside food and catch a cold and cough with fever and similar other diseases. Only you are responsible for your health, so avoid street food and give your body a healthy diet.

Consume seasonal fruits

There are many seasonal vegetable and fruits available during the monsoons. However, the dampness in the air and high moisture may render your fruits inedible. Seasonally grown fruits are usually fresh, hence considered best for consumption. Some seasonal fruits are cherries, plum, apple, and more.

Make green veggies your friend

Green vegetables are forever healthy. This monsoon makes green veggies, your friend and says goodbye to raw and contaminated food. Apart from leafy green veggies like spinach, there are other vegetables such as bitter guard that are healthy. The bitter guard has blood-purifying properties which are helpful during monsoon. It also helps in the digestion process, which is common during this time of the year. Bet on green veggies and bitter guard to keep a health check.

Keep your surroundings clean

Keeping the surroundings clean during monsoon is a significant part of our everyday life. Utmost precautions must be taken during the rainy season to avoid breeding of mosquitoes or stagnation of water which can shelter many diseases. It would help if you regularly cleaned flowerpots, corners or any similar area for clean surrounding. Keep a check for small insects and mosquitoes. Keeping your area clean will help avoid significant diseases like dengue, typhoid, which are caused due to mosquitoes.

Precautions You must Take During the Monsoons

Apart from the above major aspects, there are a few precautions that must be kept in mind to avoid getting sick this monsoon.

  1. Always use boil water for drinking and cooking.
  2. Keep an umbrella handy. Avoid getting drenched in the rain.
  3. Drink plenty of water.
  4. Use mosquito repellent whenever you are out.
  5. Drink ginger tea or herbal tea to improve your immune system naturally.
  6. Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly before consuming or cooking.
  7. Always keep your hands sanitized or wash every time before eating.
  8. Always wear full clothes to avoid catching cold and fever.
  9. Wear sturdy and robust footwear to ensure you don’t slip in the rain.
  10. Keep your surroundings clean.

These precautions must be followed for everyday routine. They are helpful in the elimination of suffering due to monsoon.

Take precautions to Stay Healthy During Monsoons

Monsoons are here, and so are those water-borne diseases. Even a small infection can lead to severe medical issues. Apart from taking precautions, health insurance becomes a necessity to bear medical expenses occurring because of water-borne diseases. Take safety guards to stay always protected.
