Bharti AXA TWO WHEELER Insurance Exclusions in Two Wheeler Insurance 11 Apr 2018 Exclusions in your two-wheeler insurance Two wheelers are the chosen ride for people of all ages these days. Everybody seems to have a motorcycle, a scooter, bike or at least a scooty. The Government has made it mandatory for every rider to have a two-wheeler insurance . But there are many nuances of these policies that people don’t understand, for instance, its exclusions. Exclusions in your two-wheeler insurance It is always better to read the insurance policy to understand all the benefits, exclusions and any other add-ons they provide you with. If you are working with an insurance agent, then make sure he takes you through all the important exclusions of your policy. Some common exclusion from the policies are: 1.Illegal activity- If you are found riding outside the limits of the law, like suppose you are driving on the wrong side of the road or if your vehicle is damaged because you have broken any traffic rules, then you are not entitled to any insurance claim. Riders without a license: If a rider is under the legal age of driving or if an adult does not possess a valid driving license, then any right to an insurance claim is forfeited. Riders without a helmet- This is an offense in the eyes of the law, and hence no insurance company will dole out any claims you make. Speeding- If you are driving at a speed above the limit specified for the road, you are breaking the law of the land and hence are not entitled to any of your insurance claims. 2.Drunk driving- This is a commonly held myth among the insured that they will get their claim if they are in an accident , but driving under the influence of alcohol does not entitle you to any insurance claim. This also includes drugs or any other medication. If your blood alcohol level is more than the allowed by current regulations , you cannot claim any insurance for yourself. 3.Staged accidents- This is an obvious exclusion, but many people do not understand that if an accident looks intentional or fishy, an insurance company can deny their claim. 4.Losing your keys- For the two-wheeler insurance policies that include loss of vehicle from theft, this does not involve losing your keys or your bike getting stolen. 5.Breakdown- If a faulty vehicle stops on its own or a second-hand bike has safety concerns then these may not always come under your regular insurance policy: This also includes any faulty parts that are not included in your insurance policy. It is always better off to check beforehand what is and isn’t covered. If the quality of your two-wheeler has degraded due to poor maintenance, then this is also not included in your insurance policy. If you have certain parts of your vehicle specifically insured, then the damage to the other parts will not bring you any claim. This involves any spare parts that you have not insured. 6.Political issues- If your country is under war, mutiny or any other political instability and your vehicle is damaged in the process; then chances are your insurance company will not dish out any of your claims. Insurance for your two-wheeler is a good thing. However, it comes with many predetermined terms and conditions, be sure to look into them before Investing in one.
