Bharti AXA TWO WHEELER Insurance Traffic Rules: Complete Guide to Indian Traffic Rules 17 Apr 2018 A Back-to-Basics Guide to India’s New Traffic Rule India’s driving rules are very strict but are openly flouted by the drivers, and at the same time, the implementation by authorities has been somewhat lax. We all have heard of the new traffic rules where each driving license holder is assigned a fixed number of points, and every violation would attract penalty in the form of a pre-defined number of points being deducted. The new rules are now being implemented more strictly by the authorities, and as a result, you can see traffic policemen everywhere ready to prosecute the offenders. If you jump signals or ride without your helmet, you must pay 10 times the fine you had to pay earlier under the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill 2016, which has been approved by the central government in 2018. Earlier the fine was Rs. 100 which has now been fixed at Rs. 1000. The fines for over speeding and drunken driving have also increased up to five-fold, and the laws mandating various permits such as PUC (Pollution under control) and two-wheeler insurance has also become stringent. A guide to making sure you are on the right side of the new traffic rules This is a basic guide for all those two-wheeler drivers out there, who are unaware of the stricter new rule. This will help them understand how they can avoid being penalised for traffic violations - 1.Firstly, buy yourself a good helmet, which is sturdy and strong and will protect you in case of any unexpected accident, and renew any old registration certificates of your bike. Make sure you get a PUC certificate too if you don’t already have one. Helmets will keep your head safe in case of an accident and will also make sure that you are not fined for not wearing one. 2.Secondly, get two-wheeler insurance. This was already made mandatory by our government long ago. Now you will be charged almost Rs. 2000/- instead of the previous penalty of Rs. 100/- if you are caught driving a two-wheeler without insurance, or imprisonment for 3 months. It is always better to have a two-wheeler insurance plan which will keep you safe on the roads and will bear any unexpected financial or legal costs that you incur. In case of accidents too, insurance policies cover any injury cost you might face or even any disability that might happen. The motor insurance policy has become as important as your permit. Bharti AXA gives you good offers for vehicle insurance. 3.When you are on the road, keep your eyes open and always be alert and cautious otherwise you might inadvertently jump traffic signals and end up paying Rs. 1000/- as fine instead of a previous fine of Rs. 100/-. Even if you have all the mandated certifications and you are riding with your helmet on, do not speed away from traffic policemen stopping you. It is always best to stick by the rules, no matter how late you are. 4.Overloading two-wheelers will cost you Rs. 2000/-and dangerous driving will attract a fine of Rs. 5000/-. So, don’t take more than one pillion rider or over speed, which will result in you being accused of rash driving and you will certainly be stopped by any traffic policemen who catches you red-handed Over speeding fine is now Rs. 1000/- for two-wheelers as compared to Rs. 400 earlier. Taking more than one pillion will cost you Rs. 2000/- instead of Rs. 100/- previously, for a two-wheeler, and your license will also be scrapped for three months. 5.Rash driving where you jump traffic signals, or you ride your motorcycle under the influence of alcohol or drugs will also burn a hole in your wallet. Jumping the signal will cost you Rs. 1000, and the police can cancel your license for three months. Drunken driving will cost you a whopping Rs. 10,000/-, so make sure you are not driving under the influence of alcohol All in all, it is best to be safe than sorry. Make sure you have a helmet, your RC and a clear copy of your two-wheeler insurance when you step out on the road. It is always better for you to be cautious on the roads and stick to the traffic rules.
