Jeep Compass Limited 4x4 (O) 2.0 Diesel – One of the best off-roaders, the Jeep Compass boasts of Jeep’s legendary off-roading heritage. Both diesel and petrol engine options are available. All-wheel drivetrain is only in the top-end Limited diesel variant. It is powered by a 2.0 litre Multijet II engine, with 170bhp output, at 3750rpm with 350Nm torque. It has a Select Terrain system with four driving modes – Auto, Snow, Mud and Sand. 

Toyota Fortuner 2.8 Litre Diesel 4x4 AT – Large and muscular, the Fortuner has been a long-running favourite SUV. Both diesel and petrol engine options are offered, along with option of manual and automatic transmission. Top-end diesel automatic variant comes with a 4x4 drivetrain. It delivers 174.5bhp at 3400rpm along with 450Nm between 1600-2400rpm. Downhill Assist Control, Active Traction Control, 4WD with high and low range are some advanced tech off-roading features in the Fortuner.   

Ford Endeavour 3.2 Litre Diesel Titanium AT – The Endeavour is one of the bigger boys among SUVs. Available in two diesel options, the higher powered option gets a 3.2 litre, 5-cylinder TDI engine which gives 197bhp power, at 3000rpm and 470Nm torque between 1750-2500rpm. Gearbox is 6-speed automatic. 4x4 drivetrain is offered only on the top-end 3.2 litre Titanium variant. Off-road advanced tech features include Electronic Locking Rear Differential, Hill Descent Control, Terrain Management System, 800mm water wading capability and more. 

Mahindra Thar DI 4WD BS4 PS – With its iconic Jeep-inspired looks and styling, the Thar is a rugged off-roader that can take on pretty much any terrain with ease. The DI 4WD BS4 PS variant is powered by a 2.5 litre m2DiCR, 4-cylinder engine. Power output is 63bhp at 3200rpm and 195Nm torque between 1400-2200rpm with a five-speed manual gearbox.
