A Few Nutritional Basics Every Family Should Follow

Food is the building block of life that gives way to a healthy mind and body. Consuming some specific nutrients and including certain practices in the everyday diet can improve body function and foster a healthy life.

Now, when it comes to healthy eating and nutrition, there are certain basics that every family should follow.

1. Eating Green Leafy Vegetables

Vegetables are good for everyone, and there’s no substitute for them. Not only are they rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fibre but also have certain nutrients that improve immunity and body function. Consuming vegetables improves health and lowers the risk of numerous diseases. Include cruciferous and green leafy vegetables in your meals and make sure your kids have them too.

2. Having a Balanced Breakfast

Everyone says it, everyone knows it, but a lot of people still skip their breakfast. It’s true that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. A healthy breakfast is important to kick start metabolism as the more balanced you eat in the morning, the more energy you have for the rest of the day. Balanced breakfast will improve cognitive function, so make sure to include healthy fat, complex carbohydrates, and proteins.

3. Add Plenty of Whole Grains

Whole-grain foods, such as whole-wheat bread, brown rice, oatmeal, and whole-grain cereal, are good sources of energy and fibre. Add them as a side with other dishes and make sure they are at least a part of two meals.

4. Know the Fats

Some fats are better than others are, and it is important to include these ‘good’ fats in the diet. Use liquid vegetable oils such as sunflower, sesame, extra virgin olive oil for cooking. Skip solid fats and butter as they bring more problems in the longer run. Include peanut butter in the diet, as it is a source of protein and healthy fats.

5. Choose Good Choices for Proteins

Proteins are important part of a healthy diet, so do include them in all meals. There are many sources of proteins, even if your family is vegetarian. However, if you eat meat, do remove the extra skin and fat from the poultry. Avoid eating a lot of red meat and keep the portions small. Lentils, chickpea, tofu, chia seeds are good sources of protein for vegetarians.

The nutrition basics mentioned above will go in the long run and ensure that your family is healthy and hearty. Most of the lifestyle diseases occur due to poor nutrition and lack of exercise. However, some illnesses can even strike the healthiest of people. To safeguard your family against finances, make sure you have covered it with a comprehensive Health insurance policy .
